But Canada’s emerging Salish Sea wine region is possibly the one place you can combine a spectacular nature adventure with a world class wine tour. So much so that boutique expedition cruise operator Maple Leaf Adventures has created such a trip …moving about by expedition yacht for 5 days, complete with an engaging sommelier-guide.  

 

The region consists of two of BC’s wine sub GIs – Cowichan and the Wine Islands, both producing stellar cool climate wines, from bubbles to multi-layered, terroir-driven pinot noirs. Not surprisingly, the region’s wines(many with acidity and salinity) go well with the region’s fresh seafood. All this from green and gold islands with dry forest meadows, cool rainforest valleys and many, many beaches.

 

Maple Leaf’s Wines and Islands trip, with a very limited number of guests aboard a spacious catamaran yacht, island hops between Vancouver Island and the natural coves and harbors of remote Gulf Islands. You’ll explore the geography of sandstone, limestone and volcanic rock on guided hikes and kayak paddles, then walk the vineyards with local winemakers to explore the region’s expression in the grapes. 

 

You’ll be given an in-depth look at British Columbia’s emerging “Wine Islands” and their unique place in the Salish Sea—a wine region like no other. This end-of-harvest-season trip gives you time with the winemakers after the push to get the grapes in, and the chance to enjoy local produce.
