Ravines Wine Cellars

Ravines Wine Cellars is one of the most respected boutique wineries in the Finger Lakes AVA, known for producing terroir‑driven, classical wines that reflect the cool‑climate elegance of upstate New York. Founded in 2001 by Morten and Lisa Hallgren, Ravines has played a pivotal role in elevating the reputation of Finger Lakes wine both nationally and internationally.
Morten Hallgren brings a remarkable winemaking pedigree to Ravines. Born in Denmark and raised on his family’s vineyard in Provence, France, Morten earned advanced degrees in Enology and Viticulture at one of Europe’s premier winemaking schools in Montpellier. Before settling in the United States, he honed his craft working at prestigious wineries including Château Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. After serving as head winemaker at Dr. Konstantin Frank Cellars in the Finger Lakes, Morten and Lisa founded Ravines with a clear mission: to craft dry, balanced wine in the classical Old World tradition using premium vinifera grapes.
Lisa Hallgren, a chef and culinary expert, brings complementary expertise to the winery’s ethos. Her background in food and hospitality shapes Ravines’ philosophy of producing food‑friendly wines and elevating the tasting experience, emphasizing harmony between wine and cuisine. Together, the Hallgrens have built Ravines into a winery that blends Old World technique with New World terroir expression.

Situated on over 130 acres of sustainably farmed estate vineyards along Seneca and Keuka Lakes, Ravines embraces minimal intervention winemaking and strict vineyard selection to produce wines of precision, balance, and distinct regional identity. The estate has earned critical acclaim from major wine publications and accolades that underscore its status as a flagship producer in the Finger Lakes.
