Vermentino is classically grown on the warm Mediterranean coasts of both Italy and Corsica. This grape is known primarily for being high in acid, and layered with minerality. Wine made from this grape typically screams for food. This Vermentino comes from The Bench Vineyard which is located in Clements Hills AVA in the greater Lodi area. While the vineyard does not sit on the coast, it does benefit from the cool Pacific breeze and sandy soils. I strive to source fruit from high-quality vineyards and this vineyard fits that ethos because it's farmed with Biodynamic practices. We selected and hand-harvested the fruit from a slightly cooler lower block that helps retain a fresher profile.

Vinification: This was whole-cluster pressed and allowed to settle overnight followed by a light racking. Native yeast fermentation was carried out in stainless steel. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked and aged for 5 months in concrete before bottling. Unfinned and unfiltered expect some sediment.

Aromas of banana, lemon leaf, grapefruit pith, fresh fennel, and wool. On the palate, this wine has layers of texture, and a slight bit of grip from concrete aging while having a nice rounded oily finish. This wine is driven by its minerality, it's savory, sassy almost salty, and would be great with shellfish. 116 cases produced.

About Kascadia

North American wines, including those from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, have risen to the top of the list when it comes to the world's "new world" wines. These regions have rapidly established themselves as producers of exceptional quality and diverse varietals, challenging the long-held dominance of classic Old World wine regions like France, Italy, and Spain.
