Food Pairing Suggestions
The winery recommends pairing Los Nietos with red meats and game, a natural match for the wine's Cabernet-led structure, elegant tannins, and acidity.
Pair with carne asada, grilled ribeye, lamb chops, slow-braised beef, or roasted game. Its combination of dark fruit, acidity, and subtle coffee and tobacco notes would also work beautifully alongside roasted mushrooms, aged cheeses, charcuterie, or a rich beef ragù.
For something simpler, serve it with a grilled steak and roasted vegetables or open a bottle alongside a hearty pizza topped with mushrooms and sausage.
Why We Love It
The 2022 Emevé Los Nietos represents another side of the North American wine story we are excited to explore at Kascadia — the increasingly compelling wines coming from Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California, Mexico.
There is something immediately familiar about Los Nietos. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot are varieties with a long history of being blended together, but here they are interpreted through a distinctly different place.
Valle de Guadalupe gives us an opportunity to look south while continuing the same philosophy that has shaped the Kascadia portfolio: seeking out wines with a strong sense of place, thoughtful winemaking, and a story that expands our understanding of North American wine.
Los Nietos makes that introduction beautifully. Berries and floral aromas lead into subtle coffee and tobacco, while elegant tannins and bright acidity give the wine structure without overwhelming the palate. Twelve months in French oak completes the wine while allowing its fruit and character to remain at the center.
It is polished enough for a special dinner yet approachable enough to open simply because something good is on the table.
From British Columbia and California to Baja California, Kascadia continues to explore the diversity of wine being made across North America — and Los Nietos offers a compelling introduction to what Valle de Guadalupe brings to that conversation.
